Serama Show Something Worth Crowing AboutPicture of the Show hall Picture of the judging Picture of the Reserve of Show Picture of the Champion of the Show Well, the Serama Show held in conjunction with the Unifour Show, on March 5th was a smash hit. We truly owe the OEGBCONC a HUGE thanks for graciously allowing us to tag along on their show. Neil Mahaffey was outstanding when it came to coordinating the event, and we are very grateful for the space in which to conduct our Serama Meet. The setup was fantastic, and having our Serama Meet in conjunction with the Unifour Show allowed us to see other breeds that were being exhibited, and drew other exhibitors to our section of the Show. Exhibitors began cooping in their birds Friday evening, and some were also cooped in Saturday morning. After the birds were cooped in, the last part of the show prep was done, as the clerks registered the weight, class, band number and exhibitor number of each individual bird. This information was put on the cage tags, as well as the score cards, and the official Show record forms. This was all taken care of by approximately 9:00 am. As a stream of people began trickling in, the judging began. Our two judges Joe Rivers and Anthony De Piante practiced on 4 birds that had been disqualified, and then started in on the regular entrants. Anthony judged the females while Joe took care of evaluating the males. The judging was done in the Malaysian Style, where each bird was brought from its cage, set in 1 of 8 holding cages, and then brought up as needed, by the judge. The bird was set on a table about eye level, and allowed to walk about. This allowed the judge to evaluate its temperament, and type better. The judge filled in the scorecard for each bird, put it back in the holding cage, and then a runner took the bird and completed scorecard back to its original show cage. Several people stopped to watch the judging, and the judges even fielded a few questions from the audience. Many people commented that they really enjoyed seeing the birds judged in such a unique manner, and that they learned about the finer points of a Serama. As the judged birds started being returned to their cages, several show assistants began adding up the point totals and awarding quality ribbons. In the meantime, several breeders mingled among the crowd, fielding questions and passing out Serama literature. We were fortunate in that the OEGBCONC had given us an entire barn in which to conduct our meet, and so there was plenty of room for everybody to mingle around asking questions visiting, and of course admiring the Seramas. After the 1st tier judging was finished, we commenced our 2nd tier judging. The champion of show, reserve of show, 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up, champion of class, and reserve of class were all selected and awarded their respective ribbons. Then it was time for more visiting, until coop-out time, when everyone departed from the show. There were 63 birds entered by the following exhibitors: Jerry Schexnayder Karen Vaughan Thomas & Teresa Williford Anthony De Piante Jeffrey Sumner Phyliss Dalton Edgar K Mongold Steve Phillips The results of the second tier judging are as follows.
